Miniature Golf Infractions, by John Carroll & Nick Klinger

Dear Trevor, I am writing today to file a petition regarding our miniature golf match last Saturday. Since this is a formal complaint, I’ll be sending a carbon copy to Marty, the clerk at the Pro Shop & Sno Cone Stand who checked us in before our game. At the end of our match play, you signed a scorecard of 49 strokes, which handily beat my score of 62. But I contend that you committed several infractions that typically incur additional strokes which you did not assign yourself.

Miranda Lambert Introduces the World to Her Husband s Abs in Settling Down Video

After the flurry of their secret wedding last year, and some pointed ACMs gloating in front of ex Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert is clearly using her new “Settling Down” music video as something of a victory lap over her husband, Brendan McLoughlin, who co-stars as, well, her husband, Brendan McLoughlin. Still, we were not prepared for the sudden shirtlessness. That reveal hit like The Sixth Sense. But with abs. The pair met, if you’ll recall, when McLoughlin, a now-former NYPD officer, was stationed outside Good Morning America during Lambert’s November 2018 visit to the morning show with the Pistol Annies.

Today, her co-stars and other admirers in the Hollywood community took to Twitter to pay their respects:

Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons on His Sad Sex Scene, Star Wars Rumors, and the Funny Things About D

One of the joys of Sundance is watching sweet, low-budget movies that bring together nice people whom you might never have thought to pair up. Such is the case with Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemons, who play dying mother and gay son in Saturday Night Live writer Chris Kelly’s first feature, Other People, an oftentimes funny look at a family dealing with cancer that earned the festival’s prestigious opening-night slot.

Monday-Night Telekaraoke With 10 Internet Strangers (and the Occasional Dog)

An internet karaoke party conducted via Zoom on Monday night. We sounded great, thanks for asking. My friend Maddie has a strong opinion that all karaoke songs should be limited to a verse and a chorus. You belt out the good stuff, your friends — ideally — clap, and then you sit down. It’s all over in a minute or so, tops. Anything longer and you run the risk of boring people.

Money, Love, and Music, All at Odds in I Can Get It for You Wholesale

Adam Chanler-Berat and Sarah Steele in I Can Get It for You Wholesale, at Classic Stage Company. Since it was first (and last) seen on Broadway in 1962, I Can Get It for You Wholesale has developed a lopsided reputation based on one very specific fact. The show is remembered, when it’s brought up at all, as the launching pad for Barbra Streisand, who made her Broadway debut as the harried assistant Miss Marmelstein at 19, followed that up with a leading role in Funny Girl a few years later, and became the superstar you can read all about in her upcoming memoir.

Mooncop Is the Most Chill Comic Youll Read This Year

Excerpt from Mooncop. Courtesy Drawn + Quarterly. If you’re a high-minded media consumer, you’re likely familiar with cartoonist Tom Gauld’s work — even if you’ve never opened a comic book in your life. His simple, evocative drawings show up regularly in some of the English language’s most revered publications, most notably The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, and The Guardian. He’s the guy who draws those little stick figures, oval-headed and expressionless, loping on long legs with slightly poor posture and often surrounded by simple mise-en-scène rendered in tactile crosshatch.

More Like John Ennui

Early in Now More Than Ever, a cover of a concert documentary of a cover band featuring a comedian covering millennial jadedness. John Early and the Lemon Squares, the band at the center of Early’s new HBO comedy special, Now More Than Ever, is pretty decent as a cover band. They’re capable, fun performers who throw themselves into songs by Britney Spears, Neil Young, and Donna Summer. But great cover bands are always playing two registers at once: They revive a song’s original context, and they nestle it inside whatever their new version is doing, whether that’s an ironized revival or a megaearnest, nostalgia-mining operation.
