The French writer’s refusal to overexplain makes her books even more unsettling. Photo: Marie NDiaye in Paris. Photo: Marie NDiaye in Paris. Marie NDiaye does not seek clarity. She is nearsighted, but you won’t find her in glasses. Born and raised in France, for years the writer lived in Berlin, where she enjoyed the fact that she did not speak perfect German — it produced, she told me in French, “a haziness that suited me.

See? She’s wearing clothes. “Being nude was weird. And now I’m seeming like the actress who does that, which wasn’t my intention.” —Marisa Tomei, who doesn’t want to be known as That Naked Actress [Parade]
“I was trying to convince Ed [Zwick] to try and slip in a dance sequence somewhere, but it just really didn’t work out.” —Jamie Bell on why there’s no dance number in Defiance [MoviesOnline]
It was the scream heard around the world — or in the Twin Peaks metropolitan area, at the very least.
Fans have been speculating about the last few spooky minutes of the Twin Peaks:The Return finale since it aired in September. Let us set the scene: Agent Dale Cooper (or is it Richard?) retrieves a woman physically resembling Laura Palmer but referred to as “Carrie Page” from Odessa, Texas, and drives her to Twin Peaks to reunite with her mother after 25 years.
I’m not going to lie. Rugrats is one of the “golden age” Nickelodeon shows that I was never really that into. Sure, I would watch episode after episode as would any devoted Nick acolyte (I mean, what else would I do? Go outside and play?). And it did tend to come on between other shows more my style like Ren & Stimpy. So, I definitely gave it a day in court.
On last night’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Mark-Paul Gosselaar — who is an actor on a popular-ish TV series entering a second season, and therefore should not really have to do things like this! — sat for an interview in character as Saved by the Bell’s Zack Morris, his embarrassing breakout role from twenty years ago. Yes, he brought the enormous prop cell phone. Thankfully, Fallon let him show a clip from his current project, TNT’s Raising the Bar (actually not the worst show), but he was mostly there to bang the drums for Late Night’s SBTB reunion.

Chadwick Boseman as Thurgood Marshall. One of the most striking details about the storied lawyer and first black Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall, is from a professor at the University of Maryland law school. He described him as the kind of man who in his youth “wore life like a loose garment.” When researching Marshall’s early years, this detail struck me, because it contradicts how pivotal civil-rights figures are often portrayed in Hollywood films — staid, sanitized men and women hyperaware that they are making history.
