Remember Olympus Has Fallen? Okay, well, now bad things are happening in London. This is what it’s going to look like: explosions, Gerard Butler, more explosions, more Gerard Butler, maybe a little Morgan Freeman, more explosions, and then a creepy, Avengers-ified version of “London Bridge.” Good news: Everything looks so stupidly insane, it’ll probably be lots of fun. (Bad news: The timing of this initial teaser wasn’t great.)
If the above wasn’t enough, though, don’t worry: The official trailer, released Thursday (below), has even more Morgan Freeman, as well as some very dry Butler jokes:
Ring, ring, 7 a.m., another reboot comes again: This time, it’s Antoine Fuqua’s remake of the classic Western The Magnificent Seven, which itself was based on Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. You’ve seen the vest-heavy photos from the film, and today brings a new trailer for the film, which reunites Fuqua with his Training Day stars Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, and also stars Chris Pratt, who’s making it his mission to be in everything these days.

Aside from perhaps Uwe Boll, there aren’t two more maligned people in Hollywood than the creative duo of Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the schmucks who have brought you feature-length parody movies like Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, and Date Movie. Their largely laughless films mash up all the most embarrassing moments in popular culture that we, as a society, would be better off forgetting, all the while continuing to fuel Carmen Electra’s sad lifestyle by employing her (no joke, she’s been in FOUR of their movies).
Harvey Weinstein Update, August 24: The New York State Court of Appeals has agreed to hear Harvey Weinstein’s appeal in his rape and sexual assault case. Weinstein fought his conviction in a lower appeals court, but it ruled against him in June. This development means that Weinstein has another chance to fight his conviction, this time in front of New York’s highest state court. In a statement, Weinstein’s spokesman, Juda Engelmayer, said: “We are hopeful and grateful for this rare opportunity and believe that granting Harvey Weinstein and his lawyers leave to make the appeal to the NY Court of Appeals demonstrates that there is, in fact, merit to the appeal.
NewJeans know a thing or two about seasonal bops. Last year, they gave us song of the winter (“Ditto”) and song of the summer (“Super Shy”). And now, they’re submitting prerelease track “Bubble Gum” for consideration. Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein dropped their latest music video on April 26 after a nine-month hiatus, giving fans the opportunity to preview the sugar rush before it hits streaming services.
It’s a Skrull-eat-Skrull world in Marvel’s Secret Invasion, the latest Disney+ series to expand the MCU. This one reunites all our favorite Spy Guys (Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Talos, Mark from Peep Show) as they face their biggest threat ever: Kingsley Ben-Adir. The show takes its name from the crossover event that saw many of earth’s heroes replaced by Skrulls. But the MCU Skrulls are not the baddies of the comic books, so who’s on what side is kind of TBD.
On the surface, it seems that Nick Lachey was fated to become the face of Netflix’s universe of reality-dating shows. As a former pop singer and reality-TV star himself, who better to usher in the next generation of reality-TV stars on Love Is Blind, The Ultimatum, and Perfect Match? If you ask him directly, though, he’ll give a more reasonable answer. In 2018, Lachey and his wife, Vanessa, were pitching a show to Netflix when an upcoming series called Love Is Blind came up.
Perpetually awful band Nickelback is doing a bit of a genre shift with their new song “She Keeps Me Up,” which is more “Blurred Lines” than it is … whatever else they were doing? (It’s been a while since I’ve tuned in.) But it’s totally weird, right? This one has discoballs, flaming drinks, and the lyrics “Coca-Cola, roller coaster.” The jokes just write themselves.

Nicki Minaj’s months-long media blackout ended in a flash yesterday as the rapper gave an illuminating interview to Beats 1 Radio and released the new songs “Chun Li” and “Barbie Tingz.” On the surface, the new music offers a stimulus package for fans hungering for more after the string of guest features the chief Barb has given us since last year’s release of “No Frauds,” “Changed It,” and “Regret in Your Tears.
