The original glorious run of the podcast, affectionately called CCP (unrelated to the Chinese Communist Party), published regular eps from 2012-2015 with occasional spurts of episodic brilliance from 2016-2020, with Peretti fielding phone calls from bewildered fans, droppin’ more sick sound effects than a hundred morning zoos, and expressing a love for Wolf Blitzer and deadly hate for common household bugs.

It’s the kind of cringe-y line that instantly shows that this movie is going to talk about sexist double standards and, oh, probably hit you over the head with that theme. The film is trying to be “woke,” but it also carries much of the baggage associated with that word at this point in 2016.

Starring as the East German transgendered would-be punk rock star Hedwig in John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Harris prances around stage in platform heels, goes through a formidable collection of wigs, and shreds like Iggy for 90 minutes straight.

Break out the ayahuasca, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour is coming to Netflix! According to Deadline, Netflix has ordered a series by Trussell and Adventure Time’s Pendleton Ward. The Midnight Gospel will be an adult animated series about a “spacecaster” named Clancy, “who leaves the comfort of his home to interview beings living in dying worlds.” The interviews will be comprised of snippets of Trussell’s podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour.

American Vandal, streaming as of today on Netflix, is a parody of true-crime series like the aforementioned Netflix docudrama, and therefore focuses on a “crime” of a less serious nature: an act of vandalism in which a student named Dylan Maxwell stands accused of spray-painting penises on 27 cars in the faculty parking lot of his high school.
The dialogue on Marco Polo is about 40 percent actual words and 60 percent grunts, heaves, groans, and moans. Unfortunately, once you actually hear the lines, it’s hard not to root for more uuuurggghhhs. Netflix’s new period drama wants so badly to be like Game of Thrones that it copies a lot of that show’s battle aesthetics and visual panache without seeming to notice the most important part: Game of Thrones is trying to say something.
